What Makes Our School Unique?

Cora Howe School is unique in that our students are placed here via an IEP Team decision. The students at Cora Howe exhibit learning needs that require a smaller school setting with a low student-teacher ratio. The teachers are specially trained to perform and interpret assessments to determine student academic needs, then select from alternative materials and/or adapt materials that will best fit student needs. Behavioral issues are also addressed at Cora Howe.

Our students are generally more fragile emotionally and require social skills instruction; assistance in identifying their emotions; training in problem solving in ways that foster maintaining dignity; and learning to interact functionally in the world. All faculty and staff are focused on student progress academically and socially; our goal is to do what it takes to help our students develop skills that will allow them to return to general education schools and be successful.

Who Attends Our School?

Cora Howe is part of the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. It is an Exceptional Education School for students whose learning differences are so significant that they cannot effectively learn within the context of a less restrictive environment. The school serves students from across the entire district.
