A Note of Gratitude from Steve Glover,
MNPS Board Member

I want to express my sincere gratitude to you and the volunteers for the massive effort to welcome back McGavock High School students on the first day of school. I do not remember a more positive beginning and it can only lead to a fabulous year.

I am excited that in addition to our new Director of Schools, Dr. Register and Principal Mr. Wall, we have a renewed energy within our community. I fully believe this is a recipe for success. We have taken many hits through the media, but Friday's exhibition will show our kids and the city of Nashville that our community knows our true potential.

I can't thank you enough for your leadership in helping our cluster to become the beacon to which all Metro School clusters will gravitate and emulate. I am proud to represent the students and parents in district 4 and will continue to work diligently with you to make sure our dreams for this district and students become a reality.

Sincerely,
Steve Glover
Metropolitan Board of Education Member, District 4

Ms. Weir and Chamber Members,

Please express my sincere gratitude to the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce for their participation with McGavock's first day of school. The presence of so many professionals modeled what we are working to achieve at McGavock High. Faculty members and students were impressed with the over 70 chamber members that came to welcome students and help students to their classes. You all contributed to our campus having a successful, positive and smooth first day of school.

Thank you! Thank you! for your continued support to our school community. I look forward to working with you all this year and I welcome any suggestions you have in making McGavock High School a better campus.

Sincerely,
Robbin Wall. Executive Principal
McGavock High School

Volunteer Testimonials

Since my children attend a private school, I had no idea what to expect when I agreed to help out on the first day of school. I walked away from the school that morning feeling very good about my experience. I found the students to be very respectful and grateful for our assistance. It was a joy to help a lost student and assure them that it was going to be a good day. The teachers and administrators were also very thankful for our help. Who would have thought an hour on the first day of school would be a significant investment in our schools and the life of a young person.

As a long time proponent for community involvement, I was absolutely amazed and impressed with our community's response and commitment to be there for the McGavock High School students. It was wonderful to witness the expressions on the faculty and student's faces when they were greeted with such an overwhelming number of community members and greetings of kindness. I was consumed with joy the entire day, knowing that I had helped a student find their way to a classroom, find their homeroom, or just say good morning and welcome. The response I have received from parents and faculty has been very positive and appreciative. We just need to make this an annual event! I don't recall looking forward to the first day of school, until now!
A big "THANK YOU" for getting me involved. I wouldn't be a part of this wonderful event if it wasn't for you!

It was a wonderful first day of school. I have a child at McGavock and have had two graduate from McGavock. I am so excited to see the community, the Chamber and other organizations step up and help our McGavock School Cluster. The kids were great, they said hello when spoken to, they were smiling and seemed happy to be there. The teachers and staff at McGavock in our hallway were very friendly and appreciative of us all being there. It was great seeing students run up to teachers and give them bright smiles and high-5's. I just felt sorry for the kids who had to ask me for directions - hope they got there!! It was a great experience all around and I look forward to moving this effort forward.

It was a great experience for me as I graduated McGavock in 1987. Being back in the hallways, seeing all these future leaders surprised to see such order in their hallways was truly an experience I won't forget. It was refreshing to see so many in our community get up early to ensure all of McGavock realizes they have many, many people that care about them and care about their future..

It was a most rewarding and promising experience to be a part of the first day of school. It was great to see the response our the new leadership of McGavock High. This should be a great year of Robbin Wall as leader of the staff.
