MNPS will be holding a district parent forum regarding NCLB Public School Choice Thursday, Feb. 3, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., at Martin Professional Development Center. The Martin Center is located at 2400 Fairfax Ave.
According to the No Child Left Behind rules, schools labeled as high priority are required to offer students the choice to transfer to another school in Good Standing with transportation provided; i.e., Public School Choice. This February, seven Metro Schools will be offering students Public School Choice after moving into high priority status. The schools -- Buena Vista Enhanced Option ES, Cole ES, Tom Joy ES, Dupont-Tyler MS, Goodlettsville MS, Kennedy MS, and Pearl-Cohn High School, will notify all students by mail of the schools available to them through NCLB Public School Choice.
Typically this offering is made in the early fall, but this year's choice is late due to the delay in the release of state test scores and school status. It is important to remember that Public School Choice will be offered to all high priority schools that are not in improving status again this March. Should families choose not to exercise your right to Public School Choice in the February window, you will have same opportunity to exercise your right to Public School Choice during March. The difference is families who exercise their right during the February offering will be choosing to change schools for the remainder of the current school year. Families who wait and exercise their right during the March window will be choosing for the 2011-12 school year. Below is the timeline for the February NCLB Public School Choice offering.
