Atmosphere: Students of The Academy at Hickory Hollow can expect a college-like atmosphere as they finish the necessary credits to earn their high school diplomas. While they are still in high school, our students are treated like adults. In exchange, we expect adult behavior from them. There is no "standard school attire" at The Academy, but a clean, presentable, and modest appearance is expected. The Academy is located inside of Nashville State Community College. As a result, all staff and students must comply with Nashville State's rules and regulations.
Caring Environment: The staff at The Academy is dedicated to assisting every student to earn the credits they need to graduate as well as to assisting each student in achieving his/her post-graduation goals. Both in and out of classes, teachers and staff assist students with whatever they need (academic or personal).
College & Career Readiness: The Academy is dedicated to post-graduation success. Two college fairs, two career fairs, and anywhere from 4-6 college visits happen each school year. Every Friday, a guest speaker is invited from the community to share advice from the academic or business world. Every Tuesday and Thursday college counselors are on campus to provide assistance with applying for financial aid, applying to college, and providing advice for students that have questions about post-secondary options.
Freedom: The Academy has an open campus, meaning that between classes you may leave school grounds. Between 11:00am and 11:45am, students have a lunch break. During this time, students may choose to work on A+ or get extra assistance in a class, eat lunch, go on errands, go shopping, or just chat with staff at The Academy. Although students may leave the campus, they are encouraged to stay to move towards their goals at a faster pace. The Academy has a refrigerator and microwave and students are encouraged to bring a lunch to eat at school.
